Empowered Women Empower Women

Empowered women empower women, this is the hot new saying and one packed with truth and power. In today’s world, many women are waking up to the reality and gravity of the society we live in. One that has and continues to suppress us, one that want’s us to be skinny but not too skinny, one that wants us to put out, but at the same time to not be a prude. One that wants us to shut up, be complicit and do what we’re told. But truly we should be saying, FUCK THAT SHIT!

Women are brilliant, women are strong, women are multi-faceted and we can do whatever we put our minds too! But with that, we also face a constant stream of media and societal rules telling us otherwise which is why it is so important to empower each other. We truly are in this together and as much as we need to be told we are strong and that we can do this, we need to be telling that to other women.

When you are act out of love, speak your truth and are unapologetically you, then you act as a beacon of light for other women who are working to be unapologetically them and are trying to find their voices. Think for a second when you see strong and empowered women, women like Malala Yousafzai, Greta Thunberg, Tracee Ellis Ross and countless others, it empowers you right? It makes you feel like your voice matters and like you should be fighting this fight with them.

Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we're supposed to be and embracing who we are. - Brené Brown

This is SO IMPORTANT, because the only way we will be able to change the world is as a collective! Rihanna said it best during her speech at the NAACP Image Awards.

We are so desensitized in this world and often we just do what we needs to be done in order to bring home that pay check and live. But I’ll tell you that is EXACTLY what ‘they’ want. They being the establishment, the patriarchy. They want us to be ‘catty’, they want us to feel like there is only one spot at the table and that we all need to fight for it. Well I say FUCK THAT! Let's work together instead.

Which brings me to one of Wildfang's many amazing and empowering campaigns, the Folding Chair. This campaign was about bringing your own chair to the table, about creating a seat and a space for yourself. This is a beautiful metaphor and one I want to take to the next level, by saying let's build our own goddamn table instead! So in the spirit of International Women's Day, let's go over some ways to empower yourself, empower other women, and make sure we ALL have seats at the table.

Ways to Empower Yourself & Others:

1. Authenticity - Be Authentic

In a world full of cookie cutters, staying true yourself and your soul is the one of the only ways to obtain true happiness and satisfication. Being authentic is the most important thing we can do in our lives. Being authentic not only helps you heal emotional suffering, but is a series of choices that helps us ascend to our highest selves.

2. Kindness - Be Kind

You never know what someone else is going through, the smallest act of kindest could literally save someones life. So be kind, give people a chance, and remember this competitive, "catty" society is the way they want us to act. A simple act of kindness can go so much further!

3. Holding your ground & Perseverance

Nothing empowers women like seeing another woman standing her ground and persevering - sticking to her beliefs, morals, and authentic self. People will doubt you, people will tell you a million reasons why not, why you can't, but I promise you, YOU CAN!

If you follow these rules and find your tribe, find the people who root for you and want to see your success you can go so far and overcome so many obstacles! And honestly fuck the rules, you can go far by doing things your own way too! Just remember that no matter, believe in yourself and believe in other women, because without each other it means nothing.
