How to Eat Healthy When You Have the Munchies

We've all been there, well, most of us at least.. When you're incredibly stoned and the munchies are roaring! If like me, you have very limited to no self control in this state, then do what I do and only stock healthy munchie food at your house!


That's right, preemptively buy your munchies and make them healthy. This life changing idea was actually introduced to me by Ilana Glazer of Broad City. In an interview she did with Abby, she talked about how she also has no self control in this moment and craves all the unhealthy bullshit. I related very much and wanted to share some mindblowingly easy rules you can implement in your life to help you eat healthier when you're stoned with the munchies.



Rule #1 Don't Shop High

This is the ultimate rule and one that can help keep you from breaking rule #2. For those with a lack of self control when it comes to the munchies, shopping high is a sure way to come back with chips and a bunch of processed shit, which is NOT what you should be putting in your body. No judgement if you do, but you should also try to love your body, we eat too much processed food, myself included in that we.


Rule #2 Don't Buy Anything Shitty

Processed foods are so terrible for you and your health! And something that is important to remember is, just because it's vegan doesn't mean it's not processed or inherently good for you. There has been a massive rise in processed foods for vegans and vegetarians and processed is just plain bad. Try eating some whole fruits and vegetables instead.


Rule #3 Always Keep Your House Stocked

If the house isn't stocked with munchies, then there is a strong possibility you will go out for them. And what's rule #1? Don't shop high!! Because shopping high, when you're currently in the state of the munchies can only lead to bad decisions. Unless you have amazing self control and are a super healthy eater. Which if that's the case, good for you! Rub it in a little more why don't ya..




And finally, the most asked question, what the fuck do I eat then? And trust me.. there are some bomb recipes for munchies that are healthy for you. So just to prove it to you, we've compiled a list below of some favorites and some we are dying to try! If you give any of them a go, let us know! Chocolate Almond Butter Banana Bites

Only 5 Ingredients needed with this easy to make but delicious snack by Lisa Bryan.


Ingredients:

- Banana

- Almond Butter

- Chocolate Chips

- Coconut Oil

- Chia Seeds


Recipe:

First, you’ll need to prep a baking sheet with parchment paper. Then, follow these easy steps.

  1. Slice the bananas. Peel and slice the bananas into rounds about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. Spread the almond butter. Place half of the banana slices on the baking sheet and spread a layer of almond butter on top. Stir chia seeds into the almond butter for added crunch and nutrients.

  3. Create a sandwich. Place another banana slice on top to create a mini sandwich. Repeat this for the rest of the banana slices.

  4. Freeze the bites. Place the bites in the freezer until solid – about an hour.

  5. Melt the chocolate. Heat the mixture in 20 second increments, stirring in between until its silky smooth. Add coconut oil to make it extra smooth and dip-able.

  6. Dip the bites. Remove the frozen banana bites from the freezer. Dip each frozen banana bite into the melted chocolate so that half of each bite is coated. Then place it back on the baking sheet.

  7. Freeze once more. Place both baking sheets back into the freezer to let the chocolate harden.

  8. Enjoy! Once frozen, you’re ready to enjoy or store away in freezer safe containers.
