Integrating Plant Medicine: Oregano Oil

Updated: Jun 22

Plant medicine is often referred too as a healing tool used by Indigenous Healers, Shamans, and Doulas. Plant medicines are used to access altered states of consciousness where we are able to heal our bodies and our minds. While many believe that plant medicines are psychoactive, that doesn't always have to be the case. Today we are talking about plant medicine in the forms of herbs, or herbal medicine.

Herbal Medicine (n.)

1: the art or practice of using herbs and herbal preparations to maintain health and to prevent, alleviate, or cure disease 2: a plant or plant part or an extract or mixture of these used in herbal medicine

The power of herbs can be overlooked when thinking of plant medicine but herbs are extremely beneficial and can kick ass when it comes to helping us heal! One of our favorite and super powerful herbs comes in the form of an extract, Oregano Oil.

Oregano Oil has a host of amazing benefits, one of my favorites being that it can boost and keep your immune system strong! I can't even count the number of times the Ladies of Paradise team has kicked a cold or other sickness with this magical plant medicine!

3 Benefits of Oregano Oil:

Powerful Antioxidant

Consuming a high amount of antioxidants may help reduce the risks of many diseases. Antioxidants protect the body from damage caused by free radicals, and free radicals are everywhere!

Natural Antibiotic

Antibiotics are often used to help defend the body and the immune system.. In my opinion I see our medical industry over prescribing antibiotics which can weaken your immune system overtime and leave the body unable to naturally defend itself. But through using integrating natural antibiotics into our lives we may be able to help defend ourselves naturally.

*Be sure to discuss your interest in natural antibiotics with your healthcare provider.

Boost Gut Health

The healing properties of oregano oil are so powerful that it’s been shown to prohibit the growth of harmful gut bacterias! So, if you find you’re experiencing some digestive troubles, it may be worth considering taking an Oregano Oil supplement.

How to take Oregano Oil:

When consuming this plant it's important to know that it is extremely spicy and will burn your mouth, so I recommend taking it in a pill form. Others drop a tincture into their mouth when drinking water, but the pill is much easier and less risky in my opinion. My favorite and most trusted brand [and the only brand I use] is Gaia Herbs.

Integrating plant medicine into your daily routine, doesn't have to be difficult or expensive. There are a plethora of accessible plants that have amazing benefits! So we thank you for exploring plant medicine with us and would love to see what plants you integrate into your life and how.
